It's finally summer! I know it's a lot harder to get things accomplished when it's so nice outside, but we all need to stay focused.
Set goals for each day using such tools as daily task lists, a check list on a piece of note paper, your calendar, an online calendar or any computer task tool you prefer. Having a list of what you need or want to accomplish each day helps build and maintain momentum. Just make the list "realistic"; there's nothing more discouraging than finishing the day and not having your list completed. Stick to your plan and when you finally check the last item off you're going to feel great about your day!
Break your tasks down into smaller chunks. If you have a list of 3 things to do today, try to break it down into 6 smaller things. It's a lot easier to focus on a task if you know it will only take 1 hour, as opposed to 2.
Clean your desk. Eliminating clutter does wonders. Try to cut down on the distractions on your desk, and just keep out what you need. That includes the clutter on your computer desktop, and the clutter on your fancy cell phones too. Keep it simple, and you'll keep your focus. Music may be an exception, as it has been known to energize some people while they work. However, if music has an adverse effect on your concentration, turn it off as well.
Set aside some "me" time. You can't be all about work, especially when the weather is so nice outside. Give yourself a little reward for having been so focused at work, and include it in your daily or weekly plans; so set some "me" time as one of your goals. Then get out there, go outside, breathe in that warm summer air, and enjoy it!
Here's wishing you and yours a safe and happy "4th of July" holiday weekend!
Entertainingly yours,
